Lord of the Rings: The Return of...

The third of the trilogy. As the shadow of Mordor grows, Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) is revealed as hidden heir to the ancient kings of men with the re-forged sword of his ancestors. As he, Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and the other members of the scattered fellowship struggle to save Gondor from Sauron's forces, Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) bring the One Ring into the Dark Lord's realm. Will they be able to destroy the perilous One Ring and the Dark Lord with it? What help can the scattered Fellowship bring to help protect Gondor's capitol from Sauron's advancing horde? The battle scenes that decide these questions are among the most spectacular in cinema history.

The Lord of the Rings is the only movie series made from a book that I'd already read that I actually enjoy. So well done. Peter Jackson is amazing in all ways! I was so sad to see it end, but the fact that it is ending in no way spoils this movie.

OK...it's not just about Return of the King. It's about the three movies together. So fabulous and mytho-poetic. I bought the extended editions for all. Why? MUST see the extra footage and the "how they made the movie" stuff. The production information is mindblowing, the cast wonderful if awkward in spots (which somehow adds to their charm...though I'd be the first to admit that's almost never the case). Viggo is, well, himself the entire time and that's totally fine with me. He's a rough hewn king (probably in real life too). If you've read the Tolkein trilogy, you'll either love or hate the movies. I loved both, but for different reasons. Seeing the movies is not a literary experience...it's totally emotional. Reading the books is such a good experience you never want them to end. And, by the way, how Peter Jackson did this in only 3 films is a complete wonder.

Lord of the Rings is one of the best Adventure Story ever told.

The Return of the King is my favorite in the triology. The tree wranglers do make me chuckle, but I really love the battles in this film and of course, how a woman defeats the lead Death Rider.

I honestly don't cry at movies that much. But there was no forseeable way that I was going to leave the theater dry-eyed after seeing Return of the King. There are epic battle sequences, sure, but the pure emotion that the actors managed to convey made me teary-eyed from the start.
There are so many emotional moments -- Pippin singing as Faramir rides off to his death, Eowyn holding King Theoden as he dies; but to me, it's Samwise Gamgee that makes the tears flow. His devotion to Frodo is absolute, and he doesn't ask for anything in return, only to be allowed to stay by Mister Frodo's side.
I'm afraid I'll have to cut this short here. Starting to well up a bit.

I have to be in the right mood to watch this one. Very dark at times, and the ending always makes me cry.

Loved the series, am a fan of J.R.R. Tolkein and read all of the books many, many times. Appreciated the adaption to screenplay. Looking forward to "The Hobbit!"

Not true necessarily to the books but an awesome movie that doestn't disappoint. They're two separate things and it all works. I've worn out two of the sets to date and had to replace them.

Great films! The extended editions are definitely superior, about an hour extra for each movie. Altogether the trilogy runs about 12 hours back-to-back-to-back. About once a year I'll do one of those marathons.
