This has been on Starz! like, non-stop this week. It's been a while since I've seen it so I watched it today. It's held up well since 1998. It's STILL the PERFECT "popcorn" movie and who would expect anything less from director Martin Campbell (GOLDENEYE, CASINO ROYALE...with these on his resume, it's hard to fathom how he could also be responsible for last year's abysmal GREEN LANTERN). The hot-headed and impetuous DESPERADO version of Antonio Banderas turns up alongside an in-her-prime and impossibly beautiful Catherine Zeta-Jones and Anthony Hopkins at his sophisticated, dashing and debonair best. This movie is an intriguing and romantic, action-adventure throwback; like flipping on your set and finding a slick, updated modern version of the old Saturday morning serials of the late '50s...but with sexy leads. Finally, a "reboot" worth seeing.
