In their sensitive portrait of one troubled family living in upstate New York, filmmakers Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher explore how people whose voices go unheard move through life like ghosts, stripped of the power to change their circumstances. Filmed over the course of a year, from one Halloween to the next, the film follows three generations of the family as they struggle with poverty, abuse and the lingering trauma of war.

A quiet, haunting, and powerful documentary that follows one family (3 generations) for an entire year. Bleak lives and little hope for change or happiness set the tone for the film, but more sadly, for a group of real people who struggle and seem to know they aren't succeeding. This is an interesting portrait of one American family and how they deal with daily and ongoing issues related to teen pregnancy, abuse, and a patriarch's inability to deal with the effects of having served in Vietnam. I recommend this film as a picture of the sad side of Americana- this is the anti-Norman Rockwell family, but their story says something about real stories of struggle.
