AMV (intials) liked and reviewed this from Valerie Dounias's movies1 week"Pan's Labyrinth" is like a throw back to those great fantasy movies of the 80's like "The Never-ending Story" and "The Dark Crystal". Only its a far darker take. During a time of war a young girls escape into a hidden, decaying world guarded by a saytr named Pan. He instructs her to complete three tasks for him, in order to fulfill her destiny. A great fantasy film NOT for the whole family.

Ofelia moves to the country side with her pregnant mother, to prepare for her brother's birth where she is witness to the unbelievable brutality of her step-father, one of Franco's officers.
To cope with the harsh reality of this life, she starts building up a fairy tale where she is a princess who is separated from her father the king. However, the evil of the real world will quickly permeate her fantasy world and will show the realities of her life.
Although I watched the movie on the small screen of an airline in-flight entertainment system with headphones on, I was really moved by the story. The child actress playing Ofelia has an amazing p...
