Such a well-paced and thought-provoking Russian film which took me by total surprise, because my last memories with Russian cinema was my attempt of trying to stay awake for the entire 167 mins of Tarkovskiy's Solaris(a masterpiece BTW). It saddens me to know the leading boy Vladimir Garin died shortly after the filming. The purity and honesty of his sorrow grabs you like the heartbreak of an angel.

Watching The Return in THX 1080P HD (upscale) on DVD, 5.1 DTS sound.
