I had long ago seen The Wages of Fear (in my late teens, I think) but I have missed out on this one because 1) a remake of that classic film seemed pointless, no matter the pedigree of talent involved and 2) it's so hard to find. A good thing that Netflix still has it in their library. I hate that its a full-frame transfer but I'll take what I can get. And what I got was a damn good remake. A bit slow for the first third but it takes some time to establish the 4 leads (although in certain cases, it's a little murky why they have to go hiding). Quite a few impressive set pieces; the crossing of the suspension bridge was very intense. It looked like a hellish production.

Watching this in my 70's Film Genre class. It's taking everything I have in me not to start MST3K-ing all over this movie. Do something!

Amazing 1977 William Friedkin remake of 'The Wages of Fear' has a disparate group of men living in South America hired to transport rotting, unstable dynamite across the jungle to a blazing oil well fire. Buried by 'Star Wars' at the box office, this deeply underrated flick is riveting. Also has a sweet electronic score by Tangerine Dream.

Jeff C. We learn so much about each character in such a short amount of time. Friedkin's direction in these prologues is tense.
