Considering the timing of the films release, Simon Wiesenthal and his Isaraeli crew were actually on the hunt for War Criminals, Germany's hate was made deeper by this type of treatment after they ALREADY LOST THE WAR, now they have to hide their ill gotten gains and reputations and muderous deeds.

I've never heard of this movie, but wikipedia says it is the only one of Orson Welles' films that was a real hit when it came out. A thriller about the ever reliable subject of die-hard neo-nazis (of course this came out in 1946, so I guess this movie invented that genre)
