Excellent film about the life of Josemarie Escriva, a Roman Catholic priest and saint, and Manolo, his friend. The film explores both of their lives as they struggle through different experiences in Civil War Spain. Overall a touching film about two interesting and vastly different people who are ultimately friends. Though to be honest, I was more interested in Manolo's story than Josemaria, who is the founder of Opus Dei. Also of interest on the DVD, there is testimonial from Wes Bentley, who plays Manolo. It was nice to see him in a movie. Apparently he has been a big time drug addict for the last ten years. During the filming of the movie, he is now clean and sober. The cast is primarily British and American actors, who do a very good job with the Spaniard accent. But it may have been preferable ot see actual Spanish actors.

I went to the movie theatre to catch some gestalt zzs and stumbled onto a saint cum Spanish Civil War movie. Then I remembered by dearly departed sister Peggy who was a follower of Escriva and realized by the end of the movie that it was all simply serendipity! That it also paralleled the book I am currently reading, The Disinherited: Exile and the Making of Spanish Culture, 1492-1975 by Henry Kamen was just too sweet! Lastly, Unax Ugalde is sinfully hot! HIC SUNT DRACONES!!
