An elderly couple journey to Tokyo to visit their children and are confronted by indifference, ingratitude and selfishness. When the parents are packed off to a resort by their impatient children, the film deepens into an unbearably moving meditation on mortality.
My "fall-asleep" film! Ozu-san is just brilliant! His "darker" film. If I was looking for something a bit brighter....i'd have watched An Autumn Afternoon! ;}
Really one of Yasu Ozu's best. Easily was in his Top 3. Setsuko Hara has to be my favorite Japanese actress of all time. The Japanese Greta Garbo is now 90 years old!!!! Watching the DVD Extras now... more
