2nd movie in my marathon leading up to Awakening.. still a great movie, who needs Rise of the Lycans?! this is the real start of the series. and I'm glad they didn't make the vampires or the werewolves super fast like other shows/movies do. but what I didn't like is how the werewolves aren't actually werewolves, they're just some sort of shifter. werewolves aren't immortal and can only change one night a month. but I guess I can see why they change this for action movies, clearly they wouldn't be much of an opponent if they can only fight one night a month, or else the vamps can just kill them the other 29 days. Underworld Evolution tomorrow!

This movie is so bad ass. Some great performances, even coming from an action movie

One of the only series to get me cheering for werewolves instead of vampires.

Rewatching Underworld. Awesome series.

It's not as bad as I thought! I saw the commercial for the 3rd one, but I thought I should watch it form the start first.

I love all the underworld movies :) so I thought I would rewatch them in order :)

TRIVIA: The ancient tome which Selene uses to research the history of Kraven is a Latin prayerbook (with appropriately vampiric illustrations added). The first two pages visible onscreen contain the "Proper of the Second Mass for All Souls Day" and the second set are Psalms. The rest of the pages are shown too far from the camera to make out clearly.

The 'attack dogs' outside of the vampire mansion were actually very docile and playful canines, which were the only dogs available at the time. For the scene where they chase Scott Speedman,director Len Wiseman had to film short clips of the dogs running and later put in sounds of vicious barking. If you look closely though you can see their tails happily wagging back and forth.

The woman in the picture Selene finds in Michael's apartment is the wife of writer Danny McBride.

'Selene',the heroine's name,is the Moon in Greek mythology.

The movie was initially pitched as "Romeo and Juliet for vampires and werewolves".

The actors only had two weeks of wirework and prop training for the movie.

Len Wiseman opted to shoot many of the action and effects sequences live,without computer imagery. In one scene,for instance,a werewolf seems to run more than 50 mph behind a speeding car. This was shot using an elaborate rig towed behind a vehicle,with actor Michael Sheen doing the closeups of the running and the jump onto the car,while the long shot of Lucian running was done by stuntman Todd Schneider.

Best Werewolfs so far but i miss michael.

Kate Bekingsale and Scott Speedman star in the first entry in the Underworld series.A centuries old war between the lycans and vampires is raging no one knows the origins of this battle the vampires have lived like aristocrats and the lycans are more survivors.Selene a beautiful vampire warrior has been fighting the war for the vampires but she is wary to find an answer to end the war.Lucian the leader of the Lycans is also trying to find out answers fir the war they both believe a human named Micheal may be the answer but when Seleine and Micheal have an affair the war gets far more complicated question is is Micheal the answer to the end of this ancient war.This is stylized comic atmosphere in this movie Gothic awesome effects and definately to see both vampires and werewolves in the same movie is always awesome to see for the first film it was very good.
