A samurai film that uses the narration from two main characters of the film, “When the Last Sword is Drawn,” tells the story of a samurai and his affect on these two men and the importance he played in their lives, with a unique connection. Set in a time when a modern Japan was beginning to rise, forcing the samurai to either accept or defy the changes, the film focuses on its main character, Yoshimura, an unusual yet very skilled samurai, who at first glance seems only in search of wealth but must choose a path that isn’t always understood yet begins to unravel as the two men remembering Yoshimura give their experiences and encounters with him, revealing a very loyal, loving, and devoted man, committed to his family and homeland. The only real flaw to the film is the flashback sequences which at times can be a bit confusing, but doesn’t take away from the overall feeling of the dramatic and emotional elements or the intense swordplay that is commemorative of this style of f...
