16 августа 2005 года вышел новый альбом группы 30 Seconds to Mars – A Beautiful Lie. Как пишут сами музыканты, они приложили массу усилий, «вложили в релиз свои бессонные ночи и дни непрекращающейся работы, ведра крови, пота и слез». В процессе написания группа объехала 4 континента, побывала в 5 странах, перепробовала 7 различных студий.

Отметим, что к моменты его выхода постоянными участниками уже были басист Мэтт Уоктер и гитарист Солон Бикслер, после ухода которого к группе присоединяется Томислав Милишевич, играющий на скрипке, гитаре и синтезаторе. К сожалению, за пять месяцев до релиза пластики произошла утечка информации, и песни «просочились» в Интернет. Чтобы исправить ситуацию в альбом включили 2 бонус трека – Battle of One и Hunter, последний из которых является кавером на одноименную песню Bjork.

Также для поддержки альбома были вложены «Золотые пропуски», которые давали своим владельцам право прохода на концерты группы 30 Seconds to Mars и доступ за кулисы. В январе 2006 года альбом группы 30 Seconds to Mars – A Beautiful Lie» получил платиновый статус, а также несколько наград, в том числе и «Best Rock Out» от MTV Europe Music Award и «Best International Rock Artist» от Los Premios MTV Latinoamérica 2008.     A Beautiful Lie was recorded on four different continents in five different countries over a three-year period to accommodate lead singer Jared Leto's acting career. The album's title track, as well as three other songs, were composed in Cape Town, South Africa, where Leto was later met by his bandmates to work on the tracks. It was during this time that Leto conceived the album's title.[11] Prior to this, the album was tentatively to be released under the title The Battle of One. It was leaked onto peer-to-peer file sharing networks almost five months before its scheduled release; the version of the album that leaked was unmastered. Because of this, the band was forced to set back the album's release date.[10]
    To promote A Beautiful Lie, 30 Seconds to Mars included the songs "The Battle of One" and "Hunter" (originally performed by Björk) as bonus tracks. "Golden passes" were also included with three of the special versions of the album that entitled the buyer free entrance and
