        Long before Depeche Mode enjoyed some popular success with their Violator album in the late 1980's, they were creating solid, breakthrough music in the gothic/techno alternative music genre. Especially well known for their trance-like rhythms, haunting melodies, and darker themes, they were instrumental (pun intended) in bringing the natural sounds of human heartbeats and breathing into the multi-layered rhythms of their songs. They have a unique sound that's all their own, and have never really deviated from that.

        Black Celebration is a substantial album filled with one great song after another, blended into just the right tempo and creating an etherial, sensual mood that's captivating. If you only know of their later popchart hits, I strongly recommend checking out this album and a few others of their earlier releases. I would definitely rank this as solidly among their top 5 releases of all time. Sexy!

        This album bridges the first two parts of Depeche Mode's career. This album was released between Some Great Reward and Music For The Masses. Black Celebration is the best of both worlds. With a gothic/industrial feel to it, it also has a bit left from their synthpop years with its trance style rhythms.From the title track to This Is The House there isn't a single weak song on the cd. As with most thematic albums there is also not a single standout song either. That works just fine as BC works its best as a stylized record. *note this refers to the original UK version*
