    Recorded in a pub basement when Matt Johnson was only 19, "Burning Blue Soul" is an abstract, angular swamp of drum machines, synth chords, tape loops, detuned guitars and angst that marked the arrival of a major musical talent.
    
    Johnson was never to release another album as experimental as this (although he would just get better and better as a musician and observer of the vagaries of the human heart as his career progressed), but it remains a fascinating listen. There's never been another album quite like it.
