I still can't believe this album was received as poorly as it was. The Necromancer was my FAVORITE song throughout high school. Maybe cause I was a D&D nerd... am a D&D nerd.

Rush were at the top of their game in 1975. With the addition of Neil Peart, the newest album 'Fly By Night' was pushing the band ever higher. With momentum building the band headed into the studio for a second album to released in 1975, 'Caress of Steel'. The album was a bit of a departure from what the band had done on the previous two albums, but it was the first big move towards a sound they could call their own.

Caress Of Steel very nearly ended Rush's career. With one song taking up a whole second side of the record and the first side contains three mediocre efforts and the overlong "Necromancer", there was nothing for radio DJ's to play. This album remains a favorite of hardcore fans, but for casual listeners there's not much here.
