    After the release of their first live album, Rush were itching for a change in musical direction. With the first four albums they explored a more metal sound, with the new album they wanted to explore the art rock world a little more. The ending result (or perhaps "beginning"), 1977's 'A Farewell to Kings'.
    
    The first album in chapter two of Rush's career starts with perhaps the most beautiful classical guitar intro that guitarist Alex Lifeson has ever composed, before the whole band jump in on the title track. The rest of side A is devoted to "Xanadu", a search for a true utopia. The band is playing sharp, and the background noises of birds only add to the piece.
    
    The second half of the album, for the most part, is made up of shorter, and more concise numbers. "Closer to the Heart" leads things off, and for the first time, an outside member of the band collaborated on the lyrics of a Rush tune. Peter Talbot composed the opening line.
