    Hot Rats is Frank Zappa's second release as a "solo" artist. Hot Rats is the first album where Frank emphasizes instrumental jazz-like compositions as opposed to his previous releases whcih were more satirical.
    
    The focus of Hot Rats showcases Frank's powerful and unconventional solo guitar performances which are early signs of such guitar-indulgent masterpieces as the "SHUT UP & PLAY YER GUITAR series, SHEIK YERBOUTI and GUITAR.
    
    In addition to exploring new musical realms as a "solo" artist. Hot Rats was also breaking new ground in advanced recording techniques. While Frank was developing "homemade" 16-track recording techniques and applying them while recording Hot Rats, the Beatles were working on their Abbey Road album which was limited to 8-track recording technology.
    
    In studying the early works of Frank Zappa, one truly begins to see the overall genius and contribution he has made to Rock Music as one of America's greatest musical composers of the 20th century.
