Maroon 5 have come a long way from the grunge-rock flavor of their tenure as Kara's Flower's (the band's first incarnation). The group still rocks when they want to, but IT WON'T BE SOON finds M5 emphasizing smoother, melodic fare with an R&B twist. Traces of Michael Jackson, Hall & Oates, Prince, and other mainstream soul-pop icons can be heard in the mix, but Maroon 5 gives their sound a distinctive stamp, melding electronic influences, hip-hop, balladry, rock, and keen pop sensibilities. The overall vibe is stylish and sexy, and the top-shelf production glitters, but it's the songwriting that takes center stage (just check the album's first single "Makes Me Wonder"). Thanks to steady touring and a debut album whose sales picked up at a steady clip after its release, Maroon 5 became one of the surprise break-out acts of the early 2000s. Expectations ran high for the band's sophomore release, and 2007's IT WON'T BE SOON BEFORE LONG delivers. Five years in the making, the album has the

Not falling in most bands sophomore slump, Maroon 5 took a new approach in their sound rather than do a complete 360 (example PATD "A Fever you Cant Sweat Out" to Pretty Odd") Maroon 5 greatly expanded on their sound by adding a new layer which was inspired by 80s icons. The single "Make Me Wonder" showed that the band was back an better than ever as the song took over airways and television music stations. And also the song "Wake up Call" showed that the album didnt have just one great hit. The album has many notables on the disc such as: Nothing Last Forever, Wont Go Home Without You, Little of Your Time, Back At Your Door and Better That We Break. And depend what region you lived in depend on what bonus track you got or you can get them all by getting the B-sides (which is my favorite B-sides by any band to this date) The real challenge that Maroon 5 faces is how their going to top this and "Songs about Jane" when there keep the same style as "It Wont Be Soon Long Before".

Expanding their breed of hybrid pop rock/jazz cross over, the sophomore album from Maroon 5 displays a very synth-driven pop rock-meets 80s newwave feel. Adam's vocals are unsurpassed, and their has been much improvement and elaboration on the lyrics and songwriting. Stand out tracks include the short and sweet poprock tune "Little of Your Time" and the heavy 80s-influenced "Not Falling Apart." A great supplement to this album is The B-side Collection, which features more 80s-influenced pop tunes, complete with Lavine's gorgeous vocals and harmonies.

This album was good and it had quite a few good songs. To me it had a complete different twist than "Songs About Jane" and I enjoyed it but "Hands All Over" to me at least, beats it by far.
