    This is a wonderful album! First musical to win the Pulitzer for drama since "Rent" in 1996. This tells the story of a psychologically challenged mother and the struggles that her disease cause for her family. Alice Ripley shines in her Tony-Award winning portrayal of Dianna, using her voice flawlessly to portray the things Dianna is feeling. Cast includes Aaron Tveit ("Catch Me If You Can") as Gabe, J. Robert Spencer as Dan, and Jennifer Damiano ("Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark") as Natalie. Great psychological thriller with great music. Definitely a must-see for anyone with even the slightest interest in musical theater.

    On the week that I was immersing myself with rock musicals, I happened to pass by Next to Normal after seeing Jennifer Damiano from this show as well as Spider-man: Turn Off The Dark singing "Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind" from Spring Awakening with Adam Chanler-Berat, and I must say how the music and lyrics are surprisingly good. It's also new where in a musical mixes it up with psychological drama and in a suburban household of all places which adds up to how genius this musical is.
