    Sub-par album - AVOID. Mediocre at best. The albums preceding & succeeding ("Blood Sugar Sex Magic" & "Californication", respectively) are both much better listens start to finish. Highlights of the album for me are "Aeroplane" and "Walkabout". Mainly because these two songs best capture the funkified alt-rock that RHCP is best known for. Aside from those two, it seems that there is a tug-of-war going on between the band's funk roots & guitarist Dave Navarro's prog-rock influences. Many of the songs feel forced. RHCP is typically a fun, upbeat band, and composing an album full of darker subject matter just doesn't work well for them. From an artistic standpoint it is tough to give kudos to a band that that inserts such lyrics as "I'm feeling sick now - what the fuck am I supposed to do?" " into what would otherwise be a beautiful low-key ballad (Tearjerker). That just totally kills the mood of the song. Surely Kiedis could have come up with a better way of expressing himself.
