    Opiate is a powerful debut by a band that would go on to lead a genre, but many late comers may be dismayed by this album's simplicity. The collection of songs here is stunning. It's been said that you have your whole life to write your first album and it's apparent that these songs are well refined; lean, mean, and biting. The standouts are the two live tracks, Cold And Ugly and Jerk Off. Both show case Tool as an incredible live act. Those songs alone make this an album worth having.
