    This album is rough and raw in the best way. The instruments jar you, while the ambient sounds flesh out the world in which Waits exists. His voice draws pictures of dark alleys and bizarre carnival shows; the music, always a little skewed and almost-off, colors in between the lines. The album is an experience all the way from 'Singapore' to 'Anywhere I Lay My Head'. Turn this one on after the sun has gone down, preferably with a tumbler full of bourbon.
