    This CD, Harry's 10th release from 1994, can be characterized by one word - funky. A huge departure from his prior albums, which were filled with a style people had come to expect from Connick - swing, big band, and romantic standards, "She" exhibits funky synthesizer beats, distorted voices, and unusual rhythms. While he would only venture in this direction one more time, on "Star Turtle" in 1996, he would not do so again, supposedly after being scolded for not using his piano-playing talents by his childhood teacher. Not sure if that is true, but this is not one of my favorite Harry Cds. Only "Here Comes the Big Parade", and "I Could Only Whisper Your Name" resemble the style of music I feel he is best suited for, but I do respect him for branching out and trying something new.

    SHE is my 2nd favorite Harry Connick, Jr. album, next to Blue Light, Red Light, which is completely opposite in style. Brash, bold, funky, and extremely memorable. I think his voice fits this funk... more

    SHE is my 2nd favorite Harry Connick, Jr. album, next to Blue Light, Red Light, which is completely opposite in style. Brash, bold, funky, and extremely memorable. I think his voice fits this funk rock style as perfectly as it fits the big band style for which he is more well known.
