Frontman Paul Spranger and guitarist Scott Wells formed Free Energy, after the breakup of Minnesota indie band Hockey Night. Now based in Philadelphia, Free Energy take the blithe, hooky classic rock of groups Thin Lizzy, Cheap Trick, and Tom Petty, as their jumping-off point, as well as contemporaries such as The Strokes, Kings Of Leon, and Wolfmother. DFA honcho and LCD Soudsystem frontman James Murphy produced the album and played bass on it.
The debut album evokes earlier musical eras, blending big sounds with snippets of glam, power pop, bubblegum and arena rock.
