The Top is one of The Cure's most underrated and lesser known albums. With an experimental and psychedelic-like sound, it’s not the usual dark & depressing Cure album or even one that has a pop vibe. Robert Smith wrote most of the music and played most of the instruments himself (except the drums) due to band conflicts, lineup troubles, heavy drug use and a grueling schedule playing guitar with Siouxie & The Banches. This is as close to a Robert Smith solo album than any other in the band's history. It‘s a head-trippy, manic, surreal work of art for sure. Best songs are Birdmad Girl, Piggy in the Mirror & The Caterpillar. The Top is not always easy to listen to, but it is truly a unique and different Cure Album!
