        In 1972, ELP released one of their most restrained albums to date. While the debut album showed an almost metal sound, and 'Tarkus' and 'Pictures' stretched the limits of the prog rock sound, 'Trilogy' was more laid back and featured less in the way of long compositions and virtuostic playing.

        The disc starts off with the three part suite of essentially "The Endless Enigma", one of the best songs ELP have ever written and recorded. While the album isn't exactly a prog release, there is a lot of good music on here, including the title track, the second radio hit, Greg Lake penned "From the Beginning" and the adaptation of Aaron Copland's "Hoedown" (trust me, you've heard it), a cover that shows just how good the trio could be when they worked together.

        While 'Trilogy' would never be a fan favorite (the hideous cover almost ensures that), it is a disc that even the most casual ELP fan would enjoy. The band are really growing as musicians, and 'Trilogy' would be the gateway to th...
