    Probably one of my favorite genre albums of this this period (1977-mid80s). I'd say this one and (although nowhere near as important and several years later riding on the VH wave, '85) the Crue's "Theatre of Pain" are two indispensables. I still listen to them occasionally. There are no bad songs on the self-titled "Van Halen" which includes songs that later became classics using the original incarnation of this stellar band, "Jaimie's Cryin'", "Runnin' With the Devil", "You Really Got Me", "Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love", and "Feel Your Love Tonight". "Little Dreamer" (my favorite track) and "Ice Cream Man" also appear. "Van Halen" shows Roth at his best and most outrageous, Eddie gifted and thankfully at the height of his coherence and creativity. Van Halen didn't master the stadium ballad until the Hagar period but, in terms of pure iconic rock that rivets and moves and represents the period, this album gets the job done, in spades.
