    Long before Depeche Mode enjoyed some popular success with their Violator album in the late 1980's, they were creating solid, breakthrough music in the gothic/techno alternative music genre. Especially well known for their trance-like rhythms, haunting melodies, and darker themes, they were instrumental (pun intended) in bringing the natural sounds of human heartbeats and breathing into the multi-layered rhythms of their songs. They have a unique sound that's all their own, and have never really deviated from that.
    
    Violator marks the band's first really big popular hit with "Personal Jesus" and its follow-up, "Enjoy the Silence" - both of which are undoubtedly excellent songs in their collection. However, I felt that Violator also contained a few "filler" songs that weren't quite as strong, so although it enjoyed commercial success, I don't know that it was my favorite of their many releases over the past 30 years. Definitely in the top 5, great dance music and very sexy!

    This is, by far, my most favourite album of Depeche Mode's, and by anybody else as well. I've lost count how many times I've listened to it. I wish they could make another in a similar vein.
