    Bruce Springsteen has proven that he is true only to his vision and not the record company's wishes. His first album was like Dylan on steroids and was successful, if only in a cultish way. More of the same for his second effort? Not Bruce! This, his second album, has a greater variety of musical styles, from uptown funk to downtown hustle and the premier of his longer, story songs. This is a favorite album for all time!

To be sure BTR is more polished, but this album was what turned me on to Bruce's world- his brilliant words, his pure raw emotion- every song a story. I knew he was a genius When I heard this album. "New York City Serenade" comes straight from the heart, man.
