        "Wish.." would have been an amazing achievement for any band, but it is secondary to the amazing achivement that was "Dark Side of the Moon". It is a great followup to Dark Side of the Moon and the album that was most thought about after the death of Syd Barrett. "Wish You Were Here" and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" are great tribute to one of the lesser-celebrated musical geniuses of the late 20th century.

        It's a "phoenix" album, it was born from the ashes of another person (like "Back in Black"). It 's always special when the band pays tribute to the people that aren't there anymore.

        Most fans of Pink Floyd might opt for The Wall or the zillion copy selling Dark Side of the Moon as their choice for the group's peak, but to me it's no contest, even though I love most of their work.

        Wish You Were Here is better than taking any drug, or at least it has less dire side effects. When I start listening to it I become near-paralyzed like some junkie in an opium den. I simply cannot move away from the music. It hypnotizes me.

        From its opening notes, it allows me to wander into the recesses of my mind, eyes closed, unable to think about anything else other than where Pink Floyd is taking me. By the time it is over I am both exhausted and refreshed. No other album has such great power over me.

        It is sometimes difficult to give up control over one's self but Wish You Were Here makes it an unparalleled ride through space and time.
