I think it was too bad that this album got so much hype. It got that Sgt Peppers thing where people feel forced to either worship it or dismiss it as "not their best work" or "Revolver's better." Despite all the (literal) bells and whistles, it is a great rock album at its core. "Pot Kettle Black" became an instant classic in my mind for great pop rock. It is also very diverse with rockers like "I'm the Man Who Loves You" and "HMD" balanced off with ballads like "Jesus, etc" and "Radio Cure." I also really love "Ashes of American Flags." The irony of the songwriter asking "I wonder why we listen to poets, when nobody gives a f**k" just kills me. But I love a well turned phrase more than just about anything. "A Ghost is Born" is still my favorite Wilco album but this is a strong contender for number two.

Not sure I would agree with all the best-of-the-decade declarations, but this did get a lot of playing time from me.

This is one of the greatest albums of all time up there with the White Album and Kid A.

Wilco's troubled but ultimately triumphant album is a masterpiece of melodies that somehow meld sounds of the past, present, and future. The juxtaposition of genres and non-musical sounds threatens to be their least accessible release at times, but this was the album that brought me to the band. "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" noisily opens 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' and challenges listeners from its first few moments. However, "Heavy Metal Drummer" and "Kamera" are irresistibly poppy, while "Jesus, Etc." points to their alt-country roots.
