Grew up listening to Johnny Cash since he was my dad's favorite. Every song sparks a memory...and even though many of them are sad songs, they still make me smile...

wish there were singers like him now....

Legend has it, that when Soviet leader Joseph Stalin died, Johnny Cash was the 1st American to hear about it. Cash was a Morse Code Intercept Operator in the Air Force & spent much of his enlistment stationed in Landsberg, Germany. So when news of Stalin’s death broke, Cash was hard at work.
Cash was honorably discharged after 4yrs in USAF, as a Staff Sergeant. He trained at Lackland Air Force Base & Brooks Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. Before deployment, met his 1st wife, Vivian. They exchanged love letters while he was away & married soon after returned in 1954. According to his biopic ‘Walk the Line,’ Cash wrote what would become ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ while in Germany.
