Albums: Katharine McPhee, "My Destiny" / "Think", Dance Vault Mixes - Over It

Runner-up of the fifth season of the FOX smash hit TV show "American Idol" in 2006, Katharine McPhee (born March 25, 1984 in Los Angeles, California) is known for her sexy, jazzy sultry voice. With a large fan base (calling themselves The Kat Pack/McPhans/McPheever) and even larger pipes, Katharine was considered to be a contender to win the show. On the Top 3 show of American Idol 5, judge Simon Cowell called her rendition of Judy Garland's classic "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" "The best performance in the competition to date." This version has been the song's highest ever placement on Billboard Hot 100. In January 2007, McPhee released her first single off her debut album, "Over It", along with her self-titled album. The album earned a No. 2 placement on the Billboard 200 chart, topped by Norah Jones. Her respectable placement was earned by sales of 120,000 albums, which is respectable especially for a January shipment. Although the debut of the album was a tremendous start, the following weeks did not follow at all, causing the album to drop out of the charts. It was her single "Over It" that stayed in the limelight. The follow-up single, "Love Story", has not been enjoying such success, with only #6 on TRL and did not make Billboard Hot 100 charts. It was announced on January 27, 2009 that McPhee signed a new record deal with Verve Records (a label group under Universal Music Group) and that her album would be out by the end of the year. "The album she is working on will show many new sides to her talents as an interpreter and a songwriter, and show everyone just how special she is," Verve Music Group president/CEO Bruce Resnikoff says.
