While a talented and influential duo from the golden age of hip-hop, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth are mostly known for the 1992 hit "T.R.O.Y. (They Reminisce Over You)," a tribute to late friends that took its name from Troy Dixon, a member of Heavy D & The Boyz who died in a post-concert fall. Pete Rock would go on to become one of hip-hop's most innovative producers, while dropping highly-acclaimed slabs of experimental, often instrumental hip-hop for over two decades.
