Albums: M!ssundaztood, Funhouse, I'm Not Dead

Alecia Beth Moore (born September 8, 1979 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania), better known by her stage name P!NK, is an American singer-songwriter who gained prominence in early 2000. P!NK began her career as an R&B artist, signed to the predominately urban label, LaFace Records. She has since complained that because she chose to relinquish creative control to her record label, because she did not like the type of music she was making at that time, and did not like her image, which included bright pink hair.

Her first album, Can't Take Me Home was a substantial success, going platinum, due to the huge pop and urban radio hit singles "There You Go" and "Most Girls". Towards the end of 2001, P!nk decided to take her career in a new direction and have more creative control. Tired of being marketed as a another cookie-cutter pop act, and eager to become a more serious singer-songwriter and musician, P!nk sought the help of former 4 Non Blondes vocalist, Linda Perry.

Together, P!nk and Perry co-wrote and co-produced most of the tracks on P!nk's sophomore album, Missundaztood, which was released in November 2001. The album's more pop rock sound could be heard immediately with its first single, the Linda Perry penned "Get the Party Started". "Get the Party Started" was a huge, commercially successful single, topping the charts in many countries.

The album's other singles, "Don't Let Me Get Me", "Just Like a Pill", and "Family Portrait" were also radio and commercial successes. In 2003 P!nk released a new album called Try This. Eight of the thirteen tracks were co-written with Tim Armstrong of punk band Rancid.

Try This reached the Top 10 on album charts in the US, Canada, UK and Australia in 2003. Though its singles "Trouble" and "God Is a DJ" didn't do as well in her home country as her previous singles, "Trouble" earned P!nk her second Grammy award in 2003. However the singles were largely successful in the United Kingdom and Australia.

P!nk's fourth album, I'm Not Dead was released in April 2006. The first single was the controversial and funny "Stupid Girls". P!nk made videos for U + Ur Hand and Stupid Girls but decided to release the latter first.

The CD had started causing controversy before it was even released. The song Dear Mr. President is an open letter to then President George W.

Bush, condemning the atrocities (& stupidities!!) of his two term presidency. The album was released on 31st March in some parts of Europe (i.e., in those countries which release albums on Fridays, as opposed to Mondays), and on 3 April and 4 April in the U.S. and Canada, respectively. Oddly enough, this album was released exactly 6 years to the day of P!nk's first album Can't Take Me Home.

A DVD containing concert footage of P!nk's Try This European Tour was released in the next month (May). Track number two of the album called Who Knew, was released as the second single from the album on May 29, 2006. Having won the respect of industry and fans around the globe, it is no surprise that there is a demand for more P!nk!P!nk continues to prove her mettle as an immensely talented performer with a lot to say.

On the heels of 2006's highly-acclaimed I'm Not Dead, and her first DVD, Live in Europe, P!nk is yet another astonishing live performance, taped at Wembley Arena on December 4, 2006. Despite popular belief that Dear Mr. President would be released as a single, during a promotional visit to Australia, P!nk appeared on the TV show, "Rove Live" and said that the track would never become a single as she thought people would believe it were simply a publicity stunt by the record label, or worse yet, the artist herself.

P!nk has so far sold over 25 million albums worldwide. Her most recent album, Funhouse, was released in October 2008, but was preceded by her first solo no.# 1 HIT!ever on the Billboard Hot 100, "So What," which was also rated no.# 1 of 2008.

Another hit from the same album was "Sober". A QUEER QUERY = END NOTE!! P!nk owes at least a small part of her celebrity to her deep-rooted friendship with day-time television's queer dance diva icon & comedienne, Ellen Degeneres.

P!nk has appeared on the ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW numerous times since it's original airdate nine years ago, and even recently debuted on the show some of the high-wire trapeze acrobatic artistry that she premiered in the choreography of her [album artist=p!nk]Funhouse[\album] Tour, on DVD for the ELLEN TV audience. The pop sensation and her 51 year old queer icon playmate have such an important friendship that P!nk was selected before any other pop artist today to perform live for Ellen Degeneres at her 50th birthday party, where there was an audience of 7,000 friends crowded together in sky-rise bleachers and stadium seating (or standing space only!!) in the Warner Bros. Studio Lot, in mid-2008.

P!nk even serenaded the ELLEN TV audience with the first ever "Bathroom Concert Series" duet sitting along side Mrs. Degeneres in a toilet stall in her show's studio bathroom, singing "So What!!," in late-2008 or early-2009. The duo rocked the house!!...or at least the toilets...!! They're quite a pop icon pair and make a fine team of queer heroes! The GLBTQ Community is honored to have P!nk & ELLEN as righteous, real-life advocates for our right to live freely, openly and equally to all others.

We'll have just to wait and see what other shenanigans P!nk and her queer TV comedy icon compadre have in store for the ELLEN TV audience in the coming year. It'll will doubtlessly be quite a riot to watch, and the music will be fa-boo-lus, to boot!! ROCK ON, YOU TWO!!
