A pun on the country singer Waylon Jennings, The Wailin' Jennys are a Canadian folk music trio originating in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Founded in 2002 when a local music shop brought together three solo acts for a performance, having changed a group member twice, they currently consist of soprano Ruth Moody, mezzo Nicky Mehta, and alto Heather Masse, although all band members are adept at various instruments as well. They have since released three albums, one of which (40 Days) won them a Juno Award in 2005.
The group is featured regularly on Garrison Keillor's show A Prairie Home Companion.
