I almost pass through this post because I did not recognized the title. Stupid- Not seeing the most philosophical, metaphysical film I saw. There are dialogues I knew by heart (in english, of course) and I still keep swinging between the speculations of the noble and his servant.

I do have to rejoice of seeing Simone de Beauvoir here - the heroine of my youth and of my generation. Women of new generations may ignore how much they owe to her. And her philosophy is not a subsidiary of Sartre's philosophy. She could think by herself, thank you and she had a 'joie de vivre' that can be detected in her diaries. She was free and bold and sometimes even a little cruel but I imagine that if she do not live to the fullest, it is because she had to conquer her place in a sexist group, existentialists or not.
we need histories of slavery, to understand how this categry of oppression was constructed and even justified by the Church, while not forgetting that slavery continues to exist.

Popper is no doubt a great philosopher and had enough understanding of the sciences to say substantive things about the context of justification and proof of scientific theories. Unfortunately, in Portugal he began to be a fad used and misused in very different contexts. This was not Popper's fault but when you stay at the level of words like controversy, refutation, without knowing where they come from, science teachers to be carried away and entail chaotic views in their teaching. I am all for the presence of epistemology in the training of science teachers but let's do it in a proper way.

Maria Callas was an amazing soprano, perhaps the first singer who understood that singers of Opera were singers but also performers- The life of Callas, or better said, the rumors about her life sometimes hide the fact that she was a hard worker and lately a very good teacher because she also knew about Opera. Prima Donnas were not supposed to have ideas about the staging of the operas in which they perform. Callas dared to discuss with conductors, therefore she was called hysterical, moody, etc. She had the bad luck to fall in love but so was Jackie. Callas died alone but not forgotten. Luckily, she left enough records - some records of live performances - so we can enjoy her interpretations.
Gould is the best of the best playing Bach. He is so into the music and has a way of making it his own. So, even if don't prefer his interpretations, you got to agree he is/was inhabited by it

Bosch, I am sure, must have been endowed with magical powers that gave him access to fantasmatic figures and he was generous enough to give us a glimpse of that world which we can also see through him. The canvas are large but as you get closer the details seem to multiply and everey time we discover something new.
I like the way Damasio writes about neuro sciences even if I think the title is misleading. A reading of Descartes, who has his faults, no doubt, does not allow Damasio's claim
