Boursin [buʀsɛ~] is a brand of Gournay cheese. It is a soft creamy cheese available in a variety of flavours. Its flavor and texture is somewhat similar to cream cheese.
Boursin cheese was first produced in 1957 by François Boursin in Normandy. Boursin is a trademark – Boursin cheese was at one time produced exclusively in Croisy-sur-Eure, France, by the Boursin company, a subsidiary of Groupe Bel, which purchased Boursin in November 2007 for 400 million euros. The cheese is also produced in the United States for North American distribution by Unilever.
The brand was advertised on UK television using the slogan: "Du Pain, Du Vin, Du Boursin" (Translated: Some bread, some wine, some Boursin) To market the ad, the company hired Edinburgh University student Jonny Moorhead, a keen Boursin lover. The advert depicted Moorhead around a table with friends, enjoying a meal. Moorhead then brings some Boursin to the table for after and remarks on how much he enjoys it.
