Magnificently played by Summer Glau, River is an unparalleled genius and a pivotal character for the saga. A child prodigy thirsty for knowledge transformed into a secret psychic weapon by the Alliance, a beautiful, graceful, extremely skilled killing machine with psychic powers. And with her brother Simon she's a protagonist of the very best relationship between two siblings I ever saw in Television, a love with no bounds. She's a fascinating character, powerful and a little odd, with her own almost lyrical way of communicating. River is possibly the strongest female character Joss Whedon ever came up with since Buffy Summers, and equally great.
