              Reading "The Winged Man," which AE wrote with his wife. A man with organic wings dives on a surfaced submarine, attaches two devices to the hull, and the next thing the crew knows they are 25,000 years in the future (though some individuals have a difficult time accepting the fact psychologically), a great enough time for men to have become...other things. This is the sort of thing at which AE was a master: setting up a purely science fiction setting, and then examining it through psychological evaluation or ordinary (and extraordinary) people.
