Susie Chafin's (Knack: Make It Easy) Anerican Sign Language and Carol Garboden Murray's Simple Signing with Young Children make learning a new language much easier.

Whenever I really need to know a sign I visit signingsavvy.com. There's also an app. It isn't as extensive as the website, but it really comes in handy when I'm on the go. Plus, it's free.

Mom's starting to learn ASL. I taught her numbers 1-10 and she's starting on the alphabet.

I got an app in the iTunes app store for ASL. I'll post whether it was worth it after I use it a bit.

I know 2 variations of the sign for Easter: 2 E hands twisting like TREE & 1 E hand arching in front of body. Anyone have other variations?

First day in weeks that I haven't actually used sign language - not even on the phone (yes I talk with my hands even when the other person can't see me - don't make fun!)... Feels weird.

Has anyone else noticed that Eddie Murphy fake fingerspells/signs the same thing while he says "Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?" in both The Golden Child and Beverly Hills Cop II? Really doesn't mean anything, just noticed it.

I told my mom she needs to start using the ASL books and the video I gave her. I gave them to her over two weeks ago and she hasn't touched them. ARGH!

I got my new ASL partner's info so we can get together and practice. Too busy at work to do any ASL last night. :-(

So many regional variations seen today. Worked with Deaf colleagues from Vermont (by way of Michigan and Washington D.C.), Boston (by way of California), St. Louis (by way of California), and Rochester. Even they didn't agree on some signs but we all still understood each other (think of accents in English: New Yorker, Bostonian, Georgian, Minnesotan, etc.). So cool!

I'm hoping my ASL practice partner will be at work tonight so we can practice a little while on breaks.

My ASL buddy was off work last night. Hopefully, I'll catch her in the next couple days. I want to be able to practice with someone. Haven't heard from my ASL Instructor yet about class times.
