The dosa (see spelling variants below) is a Southern Indian delicacy whose origins are unclear. It is generally believed that dosa is supposed to have had its roots in the Temple Streets of Udupi, Karnataka..Dosa is noted in the Tamil Sangam Literature around 6th century AD Dosa is basically a crepe made from rice and black lentils.

It is a typical South Indian dish, eaten for breakfast or dinner, and is rich in carbohydrates and protein. There are various ways of transliterating dosa: dhosa, dosay, dosai, dhosai, tosai, thosai, dvashi (used in Malaysia, South India, and Singapore).
