had a blast with my son and my mom 2day at Tougas farms in Northboro Ma. Picking apples and pumpkins! brought home fresh clove honey,fresh cider, cinnamon donuts, rasberry preserves and a punch of yummy Macintosh apples! They make everything right there on the farm...ugggh so good

My first job, actually, was picking prunes. I lived in a small town where the Sunsweet packing plant was a big deal. School actually started two weeks later in the fall than in most places, as they needed the kids to pick prunes.

Prune picking is a darn hard way to earn money, as they've already gone through the orchards and shaken all the ripe plums onto the ground. You spend the day - in the hot, still, orchard air - crouching to pick up as many as you can reach, and then scuttling forward to the next group while trying to drag your crate with you. You can't really go on autopilot because the wasps want the plums, too. So you have to pay attention to where you put your hands...

When you get fed up, you can throw the most rotten, squishy plums you can find at your co-workers. They love that.

Such a fun fall activity! Needs a better picture though.
