Jo Nesbø (born 29 March 1960) is a Norwegian bestselling author and musician. He was born in Oslo and grew up in Molde. Nesbø graduated from the Norwegian School of Economics with a degree in economics.
Nesbø is primarily famous for his crime novels about Detective Harry Hole, but he is also the main vocal and songwriter for the Norwegian rock band Di Derre. In 2007 Nesbø also released his first children's book, Doktor Proktors prompepulver. Jo Nesbø worked as a freelance journalist and a stockbroker before he began his writing career.
He became hugely successful with his bestselling crime series featuring Detective Harry Hole. The No.1 national bestseller, The Bat Man, is the first installment in the Harry Hole series. After the success of his first novel, Nesbø devoted his time to writing and to his other passion: music.
He is the main vocal and songwriter for the popular Norweigan rock band Di Derre. He has also tried his hands on writing children's books. His Doktor Proktors prompepulver, about the ageing inventor Doktor Proktor, his next-door neighbor Lise and their peculiar friend Bulle is reminiscent of the books by Roald Dahl.
Jo Nesbø currently lives in Oslo. The series follows Harry Hole, as tough detective working to solve crimes on the streets of Oslo. He takes on murderers, bank robbers, gangsters and the establishment.
