Mentioned in the Apocrypha, she preceded Eve, Adam's mate; she is the original she-daemon.

when others attempted to coerce her into submitting to his ‘rule,’ she decided she would rather
remain alone than be enslaved by the desires of another. Because of her independent vision
and determination, Lilith was cast into the role of Seductress, Demonness, and Child Abductor
in mythology. Many may fear her, but what they are really fearing is the unrestrained,
transforming force of her sexuality…a deep, dark, and mysterious force that lies, however
              dormant, within us all…

              Honouring Your Wild Woman
Lilith is the part of us that cannot & will not hold our tongue to ‘keep the peace’ if we disagree with someone or with the status quo. Despite the fact that this may result in uncomfortable consequences in the short-term, to go against our inner truth & not stand up for our principles is to evoke Lilith’s inner torment so we feel we have no choice but to ultimately speak.
Our inner Lilith will stand up to external authority for a cause or ideal, even though that may result in being scapegoated by the establishment, the media or our immediate social circle. Lilith will risk rejection to follow her inner truth & obtain true selfhood.
Lilith represents the wild, untamable aspects of the feminine psyche that have been culturally shamed as ‘unfeminine’ & are therefore supressed. For instance, a woman giving birth is similar to a primal animal in that she loses control over all bodily functions, grunting & screaming with abandon until the act of cre...

Amy Secrest creation is complete. This is an image of womanhood that is largely hidden behind a medical veneer that appropriates the credit & respect to the physician rather than the birthing woman. And so she is viewed more as a victim in need of assistance than a powerful shaman journeying through the realms of death & rebirth.

I've always found her fascinating. Perhaps I should do some more reading. The research I did during my teen years has only partially stuck with me.

Mel ~ the Smiling Grenade I always considered her the first Independent woman, carving out her own path and embracing darkness, but I like your description better. ^_^

Become. @silversickness I remember her from Hebrew mythology and she's been coopted often by poets, artists and musicians too much and for too long to NOT be iconic but her meaning is in the mind of the one viewing her.. that's the quality of mythic proportion, to be able to scale to so many people over time and add value that way. Because of her rebellion and refusal to "kneel" I took her as either the first or at least one of the earliest "Bad Girls" who rejected male authority (but that's just *my* interpretation now) and my biases are reflected in my various comments on this site and review. ;-)

He's naming her Lilith Marie. (My pseudonym & my middle name) strange bit kinda cool.Knowing him it's not a coincidence.
