This fairy tale has had many adaptions from film to plays to short stories. A more recent one is in Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" in "The Dollhouse" story arc. But in Gaiman's reimagined and retold classic, the old lady is murdered by the wolf, the wolf then tricks the girl into eating her grandmother's body and consuming the blood. He then orders the girl to defrock and to get in bed with him. Shortly afterwards, the wolf devours her. (Neil combined the RRH story with other elements so basically it was a deconstruction not a straight re-tell and more of a hodgepodge of fairy tale elements than a 1:1 reworking.)
