Mochi is a Japanese rice cake made of glutinous rice pounded into paste and molded into shape. In Japan it is traditionally made in a ceremony called mochitsuki. While also eaten year-round, mochi is a traditional food for the Japanese New Year and is commonly sold and eaten during that time.
Mochi is also a prominent snack in Hawaii and Taiwan. Mochitsuki'hi' is the traditional mochi-pounding ceremony in Japan. Many types of traditional wagashi and mochigashi (Japanese traditional sweets) are made with mochi.
My sis gave me a peach flavored mochi she didn't like (due to the texture) and I adored it. It had the powdered sugar on the top like Turkish Delight and a nice squishy texture inside.
