I have my MLS and so want to work in a library. I love being in them, surrounded by books, but also knowing how to use all the electronic resources that are available. Support your local libraries... more

Jaime Lively Hi, Stacy! If you don't mind me asking: where do you live? There are openings for librarians in my city. I've looked, but another opportunity has come my way. I have a BA in English and want to go on to achieve a Masters. I've looked into a MLS or maybe a MFA, but I need to secure a job, pay off student dept, and be able to pay for my Masters first. I would love to work in a library! -
Stacy Wells Hi Jaime, I live in SW Florida. I attended Simmons College in Boston to receive my Master's (it's a top 10 school and just the best, in my opinion). I would suggest trying to find a job or even a volunteer opportunity in a library close to you. Many of my friends in grad. school were having their educations paid for either in full or partially by the libraries where they worked. I did get a few small scholarships, but knowing what I know now, I would have gone straight into a library environment with my BS in psychology and built up some in-house library experience before starting school, not only for the tuition assistance, but for the assistance in obtaining gainful employment AFTER graduation. Never hesitate to ask me anything about libraries, librarians or the graduate program I attended. I LOVE sharing my experiences.
