No Don't worry about funny and serious, but it's true: I can see the clip, but I don't understand much.
I know Redford is the one who started Sundance and I'm interested in indipendent films: if they are good, they are better than the "big ones"!
I didn't understand "kicked off", I thought it was a bad thing (Doesn't he like this year's movies? Doesn't he choose them? Not the "boss" of Sundance Festival anymore?), but then on the dictionary I read it just means Redford "gave the start"... Much ado about nothing! =) -
Piera "Kicked off" is just an expression that means "started" or "begun". Redford started Sundance 34 years ago, but as he is in his 70s now, he doesn't choose every single submission. Most likely he has staff for that. He is also elusive as he usually only stays for a few days of the festival. This year because he is currently working on a film, he was only there for a three days so far, but he stays for his favorite panel at the Sundance Institute, which is the one where established writer/directors talk to young filmmakers. Like any film festival, some years the Indie films submitted are good, sometimes not so good. Ive been keeping up with the Sundance blogs like on Indiewire.com which gives reviews and general buzz of each film right after it's shown at the festival. Since it only just began last Thursday and ends Jan 29th, we won't know which films took home awards until afterwards -
No Thanks for these infos!
34 years ago, much time, I didn't know this. He is in his 70s but he's cool: I appreciate he did something for young filmakers! I wanted to become a director, but I hadn't the chance to study for this; now I'm not so young and I think that will remain a dream.
I love the cinema! I would suggest you some movies that are not so famous, but most of them are not dubbed in English. Probably even not available in the US. Shame! =(
