John O @hrmargo The dystopian scenario envisioned in The Matrix is now upon us in this phase of the information age. The next phase is to monetize the information more fully and also influence consumer choices, to which we all willingly submit because of the convenience and features of having all our info, preferences and contacts in one place in the care of an ostensibly benevolent technological authority who really doesn't give a crap about us beyond our info, buying habits and credit cards. -
Margo Rose @john_olsen well said -
John O @hrmargo Thanks! I'm not trying to be alarmist or spin conspiracy theories either. I have accepted this is just the reality with social media and I gauge my participation accordingly. As for google, I am hopeful they get reined in legally. They have committed some major violations of public trust and need to be held accountable in a meaningful, lasting way. A one-time fine of $100K for a company worth tens of BILLIONS of $$$ is pathetic. More accountability is needed, and I believe it will come in due time as more details about this emerge. Stay tuned.

Much easier and more fun reading the @nytimes on the ipad.

Norman That big ass paper was just getting to much for me. It seemed like such a commitment . I stopped reading the paper version awhile ago. Then I'd read it online until they started this limited articles madness. Then a couple of weeks ago they had the 99cent 8week promotion and I've rediscovered my love of the times on the iPad. Don't know what I'm doing when my 8weeks is up and they want me to pay full price. -
John O @namelynorm In whichever format you receive it, the New York Times is still the best newspaper in America, in my opinion. I hope you can keep up with it, -
Norman @john_olsen I'm gonna try!

John O @mmdmlrr In Tennessee, apparently a law was just passed that would ban teachers from discussing hand-holding because it is considered a "gateway sexual activity." -
Phillie Girl @john_olsen trying to formulate comment, but I have no words for this. Grrr! -
John O @mmdmlrr I've heard several states in the Bible belt are also considering banning smiles and winks because they can lead to dancing...and we know it's all downhill to unplanned pregnancies from there. Since they're also against contraception this is their only hope- to ban even discussing these abominable "gateway sexual activities."
